How to add a parent or guardian to a student's account

For staff who need to link a parent or guardian to a student in SchoolsBuddy.

If your MIS is linked

When your MIS is linked to SchoolsBuddy, parent and guardian contacts from your MIS are kept up to date in SchoolsBuddy automatically. This includes changes to mobile numbers and email addresses.

If a parent's email address changes, they need to log in with the new email address.

If your MIS is not linked, you need to add any extra parent accounts in SchoolsBuddy after the initial import. Follow the steps below.

Add a parent or guardian manually

We are updating our user videos, so the video may not show the latest interface.

  1. On the homepage, select the Reception tab.

The parent or guardian is now linked to the student. Their name and email address appear in the Linked section.

To invite the new parent to log in, send them an activation email. See Sending Staff, Students, and Parents an Activation Email.
